MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said yesterday he may seek the presidency in 2028.
Remulla, in an interview on ANC, said he may consider running for president if it will be a “one-on-one fight or a two-way battle” for the highest position of the land.
Remulla said he wanted the fight for the 2028 presidency to be a clear choice for the electorate between “versions of governance.”
“If it’s not me, it can be (Public Works Secretary) Vince Dizon. It can be anyone. It can be Senator Chiz (Escudero), but it has to be one-on-one,” Remulla said.
“I think it should be a dichotomy – the Philippines will have to choose between one version of how to govern and one version of the truth,” he said. “The Philippines has to choose a common future that they think is believable. The voters have to be shown a contrast between the two candidates. I think that is important.”
Remulla served as Cavite governor for three terms before he was appointed secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government by President Marcos.
Remulla said his bid for president should be approved by his wife.
“It’s a possibility. No conclusion yet, but it is a possibility,” he said.
