TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — The 16 police officers shown in a viral post drinking liquor inside the Dolores town police station in Eastern Samar face sanctions for simple misconduct and neglect of duty, the Philippine National Police confirmed.
Eastern Samar PNP chief Col. Ernesto Macasil said he signed the investigation report recommending sanctions against Dolores police chief Capt. Angelyn Glou Cortado and 15 of her subordinates for the offense.
Initial investigation showed that the police officers were celebrating their Christmas party last Dec. 15 outside the station.
However, they moved inside the facility due to bad weather – a scene that was captured in photos.
Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy, Eastern Visayas regional police director, said the PNP has a clear policy that strictly prohibits the consumption of alcoholic beverages while on duty and within police premises.
“(We) will not tolerate any form of misconduct committed by personnel. Any violation of rules and regulations will be dealt with accordingly. The Eastern Visayas Police appreciates the effort of the concerned citizen who reported the infraction, as such reports help strengthen transparency and accountability within the organization,” Capoy said in a statement.
Macasil told The STAR that the investigation report would be submitted to the administration section today “for summary hearing procedures.”
He said the sanctions would likely be a reprimand since the offense is minor and the personnel involved are first-time offenders.
“This is a less serious offense. Sanctions will depend on individual records,” Macasil said, noting that second-time offenders may face up to 30 days of suspension.
